Abstract:

Family foundations comprise more than half of the independent private foundations in existence today. The Foundation Center periodically surveys this group—defined as foundations where the donor or the donor’s family is still actively involved—to assess trends in growth, grantmaking, and management. A summary of the most recent survey based on 2003 data, Key Facts of Family Foundations, was released in earlier this year and reveals a continuing, rapid growth of this form of family philanthropy.
