Abstract:

The term “evidence-based practice” (EBP) has become widely popularized in local, state, and national policy discussions on service quality. At least 26 federal websites use this term to refer to their practices. A Medline search from 1995 to 2002 found over 5,400 citations that included the terms “evidence-based medicine,” “evidencebased treatment,” or “evidence-based practice.” There is currently no national consensus on how to define “evidence-based,” or on when the evidence base, however it is defined, is ready to be implemented or used in community settings.
