Abstract:

Several promising new studies seek to determine whether restorative communities are safer communities. In Pittsburgh, approximately half of the schools will implement the IIRP’s Safer-SanerSchools Whole-School Change program, with funding from the U.S. Department of Justice Comprehensive School Safety Initiative; in Maine, a randomized control trial of restorative practices interventions conducted by RAND will examine the success and fidelity of the programs\' implementation; and the Johns Hopkins/Diplomas Now Study, supported by The Atlantic Philanthropies, is collecting evidence of the effectiveness of restorative practices as an alternative to “zero tolerance.”
