Abstract:
The ANA recognized correctional nursing as a specialty area of practice in 1985 when the first standards of practice were published. Since then the standards have been revised four times. The group responsible for the revision described the recent edition as “expanding the description of the patient population and addressing the challenges of delivering evidenced based care in the correctional setting. It also discusses the evolving role of nurses in coordinating care, developing policy and continuing leadership in correctional health care”.Keywords: Correctional Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice; American Nurses Association; Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements; Standards of Practice
