Abstract:
This article reviews school-based educational and mental health interventions in elementary and secondary schools and identifies the degree to which parental involvement is included in these programs. The majority of school-based mental health programs do not emphasize parental involvement, and of the programs that do incorporate parental involvement in the implementation of interventions, nearly all are at the elementary level. Currently, no research studies have solely investigated the extent to which parents have an impact on school-based interventions. This article considers the role of parents as collaborators in school mental health and concludes that parental involvement is not adequately addressed in these services. Information is also presented on possible barriers to parental involvement and the need for future research. Keywords:
