Abstract:

New York is one of five states that currently do not have mandated reporting laws for domestic cases of elder abuse. Due to the lack of mandated reporting statutes in New York State and a subsequent data collection infrastructure, it is difficult to determine the scope of elder abuse, which may drive changes in public policy. However, over the past decade the state has made strides to improve efforts related to the prevention and intervention of elder abuse. Elder abuse is one of many important aging issues discussed in a collection of articles compiled by the New York State Office of Aging (NYSOFA) as part of its “Project 2015” planning initiative. In this document, the authors gave recommendations for addressing elder abuse as stated in Project 2015. It focuses on a study in Monroe County.
