Abstract:
In this second installment in an analysis of the management of abuse of the elderly and disabled in Michigan, as examined in a study funded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, the authors report that studies indicate that reported cases represent less than one-fifth of cases that actually occur with only the most obvious cases being reported. In this article, the authors delineate some of the reasons for this, particularly a lack of confidence in APS and a “mountain of paperwork”. They point out the need for a registry and the need for more government assistance. Keywords: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan; underreporting of abuse
