Abstract:

The “Village Concept” is a term that describes a new way of aging in place—a way for seniors and the disabled to stay in their homes and be a part of a community where their many needs are addressed and provided for, to lead healthy and active lives without leaving their homes or moving into an assisted living facility. One of the first “villages”, the Beacon Hill Village, was established in Boston ten years ago and there are now 65 such village around the USA, with 120 more in the works. In this article, the concept is elaborated and its operation described in detail.
