Abstract: 

Certain characteristics set apart correctional psychiatry from other sectors, correctional settings provide an exceptionally rich experiential opportunity for graduate medical education in psychiatry. This article explores how this unique training ground exposes mental health professionals to the environment that is home to a substantial proportion of their clientele.
