Abstract: 

After years of being heralded as the “next generation” of EM monitoring, active GPS is now an affordable and practical reality. This article explains the basic functions and benefits of active GPS, addresses concerns about “too much information” and the associated labor costs of dealing with the data generated, and offers guidelines about when active GPS is an appropriate solution and when it is not.
