Abstract: 

Historically, there has been a gap between mental health services and the treatment of addictions, resulting in an artificial separation of these two domains of behavioral health. In recent years, however, both clinical practice and research have focused on the issue of co-occurring conditions that involve both substance dependence and mental health disorders.
