Abstract:

Although many ex-offenders experience barriersto employment that are common to other individuals outside the economic mainstream—such as low levels of educational attainment, lack of technical skills, and limited work experience—they also face additional barriers unique to their status as offenders and their experience of incarceration.Using the innovative service model that STRIVE has developed and applied over the past 20 years, STRIVE Inc. is implementing a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide 24 months of job training, placement, education, and career development services to 700 young offenders and others at risk of court involvement across the country. A network of 20 agencies is delivering the services, using a shared core program model, augmented by local innovations.
