Abstract:

A commitment to justice requires that criminal-legal system service-delivery models need to go beyond assessments of criminogenic risk and need to reflect a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, the way in which, social and economic vulnerability is situated within histories of racial oppression. This will be a challenging journey for many provider organizations. It is within this context of reform that the International Community Corrections Association will transition to the International Community Justice Association on January 1, 2022. The association will maintain a focus on—and commitment to—the needs of individuals involved in the criminal-legal system, but the association will also aspire to serve as a forum for community-based service providers across North America and beyond to disseminate research and exchange ideas and promising practices about how best to reengineer and retool their programs and services to address the social determinants of health and crime.
