Abstract:

Meaningful interaction with clients on a consistent basis seems to be the springboard of effective programs. These interactions gain momentum and allow both clients and staff to see progress and to have hope. It is important for those in leadership positions in corrections programs to model a lot of these positive interactions, and when they observe that these are not occurring, leaders need to step up to the plate and model for other staff ways in which to interact with clients. Corrections is at an exciting point, because we have learned “what works” in many of our programs. However, it is now time to start delivering programs in a way that is meaningful to clients.
