The role of a foundation board member is complex and weighty—but critical to enabling and furthering philanthropy in this country. The public is dependent upon the expertise, in - volvement, contributions, and advice provided by family foundation boards to fill gaps not covered by national, state, and local governments. Take the time to review your foundation’s operations and educate the board, especially new board members, about their responsibilities. It will make the foundation more effective and provide greater protection for those important volunteers.
