Abstract: 

The Robertson Family-Princeton dispute (see article on page 3) is a cautionary tale illustrating how the perspectives of gift givers and gift receivers can shift over time. Many family foundations face similar problems. The Robertson Family is not alone in using the courts to settle a dispute on gift use; a recent string of cases reflects the increased litigation by foundations and donors on this issue.
