Abstract:

The terrorist activities of September 11, 2001, and the ensuing “War on Terrorism” have impacted every aspect of life in this country—the financial markets, business and leisure travel, daily office commutes, the delivery of news, and the way we plan our business and personal lives. Not surprisingly, 9/11 and its aftermath have also affected the way family foundations make grants. Just days after the attacks on New York’s World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon, President Bush issued Executive Order 13224 prohibiting U.S. entities from providing financial and other support to terrorist organizations.
