Abstract: 

Naming opportunities are an important fundraising tool. Colleges, hospitals, museums, and other nonprofit organizations offer donors a taste of immortality in exchange for major contributions. But is that immortality really permanent? When conditions change or a long time passes, can the donee simply change the name? A recent case from Tennessee shows how, at least in that state, a promise to name a building cannot be easily broken.
