Abstract: 

There have been a number of stories in the press recently about various contributions by famous Americans, all of which are interesting for one reason or another. Most have some lesson for advisors, whether they demonstrate an issue turned to a donor’s advantage through good planning or some danger to be avoided (or in rare cases, both). Late 2005, when the Hurricane Katrina Relief Act suspended the normal 50-percent-of-adjusted-grossincome limitation for cash contributions, saw an unusually high number of such contributions. Here are a few of those.
