Abstract: 

For some time, mutual funds and other financial institutions have offered investors opportunities to invest their money in firms that are limited to those that meet specific standards for social responsibility. Frequently forgoing investments in defense contractors or tobacco and liquor companies in favor of investments in technology and health care, these funds often presented a trade-off between performance and peace of mind.
