Abstract:
The challenges facing child victims of sexual abuse are complex and long-term. As seen in cases involving the clergy—not just the Catholic clergy, but Jesuits, Jews, and others, as well (see, for example, Roslyn Myers, “Orthodox Jewish Community Faces Accusations of Child Sexual Abuse,” 11(1) SLR 8 (Dec./ Jan. 2010))—victims can spend decades harboring the memories of abuse without formulating a way to deal with it psychologically or legally. Such cases are distinct from sexual abuse involving adults, and the differences argue in favor of elongated limitations periods, or no statute of limitations at all. Keywords:
