Abstract:

As this issue goes to print, COVID-19 is rampaging across the country causing trauma, terror, illness, and death—robbing many of hope about the future. The death, by strangulation and positional asphyxia, of George Floyd in Minneapolis has caused protests, peaceful and violent, in many cities. We asked Casey Gwinn to reflect on these unprecedented and uncertain times because of their direct relation to addressing strangulation crimes in America. He commented on three important issues: The existence of the domestic violence pandemic long before COVID-19; The Death of George Floyd and its implications for law enforcement chokehold policies; and the science of HOPE.
