Abstract: 

There is a new level of appreciation for the ways in which fathers affect their children’s functioning in all domains and in a variety of ways. This article surveys some recent key studies that highlight the enormous benefits gained when fathers are active participants in their children’s lives and addresses ways to overcome some of the common barriers that can prevent meaningful involvement. It explains ways in which programs can encourage father involvement and addresses unnecessary barriers for fathers. A sample program is highlighted to give readers a program perspective.
