Abstract:

Initiating and effectively implementing evidence-based programs for children’s behavioral and emotional health can be fraught with challenges. Community-based mobilization efforts attempt to address many of the most common challenges while helping communities initiate programs that are well aligned with local culture and need. The present paper describes the efforts of a two-county community and local Native American tribe in using an adaptation of the Partnerships for Success model to guide decision making, planning, and implementation of new evidence-based programs for children’s mental health. An evaluation of the model reveals particular strengths in increasing cross-agency collaboration and providing a useful foundation upon which new programming can more easily be initiated. Challenges include overcoming the time commitment of model participation and role definitions within the community process.
