Abstract:
Children who are abused and neglected have significant, often unmet, psychological and legal needs. In an effort to meet these needs, an interdisciplinary consultation and training program was developed between North Shore–Long Island Jewish Health System, Department of Psychiatry, and Hofstra University, School of Law. The aims were to: 1) provide training for student law guardians in child development and mental health; 2) train guardians to identify the need for mental health and psychoeducational assessment and intervention; 3) provide experience in interdisciplinary consultation to clinicians; and 4) teach clinicians about legal issues. The article describes program development and implementation. Keywords:
