Abstract: 

The purpose of this article is to review cultural considerations when conducting drug prevention research with African Americans. Specifically, it discusses how culture has been traditionally addressed in prevention research, what is meant by cultural competence, and what “can-do” ways exist to improve culturally congruent research with African Americans.
