Abstract:
The author reviews recently published material addressing (1) the interplay of adolescent bullying behavior and “likeability” among peers; (2) why it is important to view bullying as a form of abuse and develop effective ways for both adult and peer witnesses to intervene—and follow up; and (3) how to guide at-risk youth away from destructive life paths and into positive, productive lifestyles by responding to delinquency with restorative practices rather than punitive approaches. Keywords: peer networks, group process, peer pressure, children with disabilities, bystander liability, bystander intervention, teasing vs. bullying, youth sanctions, restorative justice, community involvement, restorative practices
