Abstract:
This article describes the effective integration of Aggression Replacement Training® (ART®), a cognitive-behavioral intervention designed to help students develop coping mechanisms and improve their relationships. The Community Service Foundation and Buxmont Academy (CSF Buxmont) schools have successfully used ART for at-risk youth. The 10-week, 30-hour ART® program consists of three components: SkillStreaming, Anger Control Training, and Moral Reasoning Training. Starting with simple concepts and building to higher levels each week, students learn to identify triggers for their anger and understand likely consequences. The program helps students learn and practice interpersonal skills, effectively manage emotions, improve communication, and develop better decision-making skills. Keywords: skillstreaming, anger control, moral reasoning, restorative practices, school culture, anger management, ART therapy, interpersonal relationship skills
