Abstract:
Every year, State Units on Aging are allocated $5 million in federal Older Americans Act funding specifically for elder abuse prevention activities. What has been accomplished with that money? How is it allocated? How much say do Adult Protective Services—the agencies that each state sets up specifically to deal with elder abuse prevention failures—have in how this money is spent? Unfortunately, it is hard to find the answers to these questions in a new National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) report on the topic. What follows is a summary and critique of the report. Keywords: design difficulties in report
