Abstract:
What happens when sex offenders get old? They finally stop being dangerous, right? That is what we have all been taught. It is the rationale of parole boards and others in corrections for finally releasing sex offenders. They release some into the community. But others need to be cared for in various institutions, often assisted living or resident nursing homes. Some may still officially be prisoners when they are moved to nursing homes; some are moved from mental hospitals to nursing homes as they age. Research conclusively shows that these men do not cease offending. As before, they target the most vulnerable people: those patients least able to speak out credibly; those least able to defend themselves. Keywords: when sex offenders get old; Wes Bledsoe; A Perfect Cause: America’s Disability and Elder Rights Advocates
