Abstract:

The best case scenario would be for all of the agencies protecting the elderly and vulnerable to work together to deter abuse by reducing the root causes and improving enforcement tools. An ongoing law enforcement program, and some recent medical research, point at two approaches that can be productive in other settings as well. An international team from three English-speaking countries published results of a study on the effect of drug treatment for Alzheimer’s patients combined with psychosocial intervention for their spousal caregivers, versus drug treatment alone, in November 2008.
