Abstract:

In June 2009, the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) hosted a two day training entitled Domestic Violence and Disabilities: Assistive Technology and Safety and led by trainer Cynthia Fraser from The National Network to End Domestic Violence. The event addressed the benefits of assistive technology to survivors of domestic violence who are deaf or are living with disabilities and the misuses of the same technology by batterers. Access to and knowledge of assistive devices and technology is essential in providing accessible domestic violence services. In this hands-on interactive presentation, trainers demonstrated the use of assistive devices and participants were given the opportunity to practice using them.
