Abstract:
Sonoma County (California) would be an unlikely site for a successful lawsuit alleging anti-gay bias by county officials. Yet, that is exactly what happened in2010, when the county paid $650,000 to settle allegations that its APS had committed homophobic actions so egregious that they amounted to 20 crimes, including elder financial abuse, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, violation of state and federal guarantees of due process, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, violations of patients’ bill of rights, conversion conspiracy, false imprisonment, negligence, failure to discharge mandatory duty, and elder abuse. This article specifies the nature of the violations, which occur on a wider, national scale. Keywords: Sonoma County; anti-gay bias; homophobic action
