Abstract:
RREM, defined as negative physical, sexual, or verbal interaction among nursing home residents, is on the rise and can easily escalate if there are too few staff members to monitor residents. A recent study examined 10 skilled nursing facilities in the New York City area. Results of the study revealed the prevalance and types of RREM and recommendations for tripartite staff training protocol to identify and intervene in RREM incidents. Includes sidebar \'NPR Reports on Abusive Nursing Home Transfers\' regarding the thousands of wrongful discharge cases brought to court annually by residents who are evicted from their nursing homes. Keywords: Resident-to-Resident Elder Mistreatment (RREM); Cohen Mansfield Agitation Index; SEARCH (Support, Evaluate, Act, Report, Care Plan, and Help to Avoid) approach
