Abstract: 

This edition of Updates and Short Takes outlines some of the new plans announced at the observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Issues brough to the forefront included: SPRiNG Alliance asks all long-term care facilities to consider making beds available for abuse victims, NAPSA announces the creation the National Institute on Elder Financial Exploitation, the ACL promotes the importance of bystander involvement in the prevention of elder fraud, the Oklahoma Supreme Court rules that a nursing home wrongful death case could be litigated and was not subject to mandatory arbitration, the Texas Supreme Court enforces the clause in a case disputing a nursing home admissions contract, Harbor’s Edge settlement update, the largest Medicare fraud case ever, inflated billings and unnecessary tests, the financial services industry is seeking the power to notify family members of suspected abuse of an elder.
