Upates and Short Takes is our regular survey of current issues and items of interest to professionals serving elderly and disabled clients. This issue reports on an advisory from the CFPB on the risks associated with pension advances; the owner and administrator of Valley Springs Manor is charged with 14 felony counts of elder abuse for abandonment of the residents; proposed legislation to ensure the grantor of a POA is able to cancel abusive arrangements and hold the agent liable for losses caused by misuse of the power; new resources on the recently unveiled Department of Justice’s Elder Justice website; research initiatives to collect data on risks to older women; continuing care retirement communities accused of implementing policies that discriminated against persons with disabilities.
