Abstract:

States often create special task forces to identify problems in the guardianship system and to draft reform legislation—and then disband these committees after legislation is enacted. Recognizing that this often means the loss of significant expertise, the National Guardianship Network called for state courts to partner with community organizations to create WINGS: Working Interdisciplinary Networks of Guardianship Stakeholders. This article reviews how WINGS program templates help advocates get more done with less effort and cost by working from model plans that ensure no important step is overlooked.

Keywords: multidisciplinary committees to assist the state guardianship system; interdisciplinary input; pilot projects; volunteer guardian programs; adult guardianship registry; Office of Adult Guardianship
