Abstract: 

Veterans, and especially disabled veterans, are entitled to a range of government benefits. The rules and procedures for accessing benefits are complex, however, and whenever money is involved, fraudulent schemes spring up to take advantage, including unscrupulous “advisers” who target disabled and senior veterans to buy insurance products or transfer assets in order to qualify for VA Aid & Attendance benefits. A new Federal Trade Commission guide outlines some of the more common schemes and offers very useful advice on identifying signs that an elderly or disabled veteran may be the victim of financial abuse.
