Abstract:
Drug courts are a relatively new and structurally different approach to engaging offenders in community-based treatment. The encouraging retention rates, relatively low prevalence of drug use and criminal activity during participation, and preliminary evidence for at least a one-year reduction in post-program recidivism suggest that the drug court model can successfully engage many drug offenders in long-term treatment and related services. The present piece discusses empirical findings supporting the drug court model. Keywords: drug court
