Abstract: 

This piece identifies the dissimilarities between the words "rehabilitation" and "desistance," where rehabilitation is aiding an offender to make a change and desistance is when an offender makes a change by themselves. The bodies of literature on both topics are reviewed, and then the author suggests seeking synthesis between these ideas.
