Abstract: 

The Free Inside program, now completing its first year of implementation at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Hawaii, has three goals: self healing, inner peace, and compassion. In this article, the author paints a practical picture of the day-to-day workings, class content, and human challenges in the facilitation of Free Inside programming. The author’s intention is to humanize, and therefore better communicate, some of the processes of program design, implementation, and facilitation.
