Abstract: 

This article summarizes a literature review about the effectiveness of electronic monitoring for inmates. The author explains that the relevant body of literature is very small and that of this set only a small fraction of electronic monitoring research pieces can be used to make generalizations about the practice as a whole. The author then explains why the effectiveness of electronic monitoring is not yet determined.
