Abstract:

This article is a review of Cristina Rathbone’s “A World Apart,” which highlights the lives of state-incarcerated women in a way that complements academic accounts by adding a human face to the body of research. The piece details Rathbone’s struggle to get unprecedented access to the otherwise invisible women of the oldest operating women’s prison in America and then highlights the major themes of her book.
