Abstract:
Yang et al. investigate the criminal thinking factors that have been found to affect inmates’ engagement with substance-abuse treatment programs and examine the process through which pre-treatment criminal thinking influences during treatment performance and post-release recidivism. The authors identify several factors that might be important in reducing rearrest rates for offenders released from an in-prison treatment program. These factors include a program’s ability to target an inmate’s distorted thoughts and ability to keep inmates engaged in the treatment process. Keywords: drug treatment; criminal thinking; treatment engagement
