Abstract: 

A number of important articles have recently appeared in academic criminology journals that have looked at how the criminal justice and corrections systems treat women, and why confinement is often an inappropriate response when women offend. Surveyed here are articles focusing on female desistance; correctional treatment of women; women helping women; and post-release reintegration.
