Abstract:

Judge James Dehn has developed a novel approach to sentencing repeat drunk drivers. His model, much like the DWI/DUI drug court, encourages treatment. It offers the carrot approach: reduced incarceration for completing of treatment or continued sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. His program, like drug courts, has a significant impact in reducing recidivism for felony drunk driving by 50%. This article describes how this model works.
