Abstract:
The police have two tools to help them identify alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers: the standardized field sobriety tests (SFST) and the drug recognition expert (DRE). They also can turn to specially trained educators for help in detecting impaired students. These resources, described in this article, can make our streets and schools safer.Keywords: standardized field sobriety tests (SFST); drug recognition expert (DRE); National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); Southern California Research Institute; International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP);
