Abstract:

The articles reviewed below speak to the integrated problem behaviors of gambling, drug and alcohol use, smoking, and other addictive behaviors. One of the most important themes these papers reveal is that the behavior of the youth generally is the behavior of the adult. While college gambling, for example, is the focus of many legislative sessions, the first article reminds us that this behavior is not necessarily learned on campus—which is not to say that it cannot be addressed there; similarly, drinking, drug use, and smoking. “Gambling and Problem Gambling Among Adolescents in New York” by James Maney and Mariangela Milea; “Marijuana Abuse: Age of Initiation, Pleasure of Response Foreshadow Young Adult Outcomes” by Robin Eisner 19 (5) NIDA Notes (Jan. 2005); “Tobacco Promotions: Prevalence and Association With Tobacco Use” by N.A. Rigotti, S.E. Moran, and H. Wechsler 95 (1) Am. J. Pub. Health 138-44 (Jan. 2005); “Adolescent Binge Drinking Associated With Binge Drinking During Early Adulthood” by Join Together;
