Abstract:

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” —Henry de Bracton DeLegibus (c 1240 A.D.) The Challenge: Infection Control Henry de Bracton’s basic tenant of infection control is particularly applicable to renovation or construction projects in correctional health care facilities. Failure to include correctional health services staff and, in particular, infection control professionals in the planning of renovation and construction projects can have dramatic consequences for inmates and correctional staff. When inmates or staff are immunocompromised, construction- induced infections can have serious, and often deadly, results.
