Abstract:
Corrections budget deficits have resulted in many states reducing incarceration sentences or seeking alternative forms of punishment to incarceration. One alternative has been to send offenders to work release facilities to serve the remainder of their sentences in the community under close supervision. Although many evaluations have been conducted on work release programs, there have been no studies specifically examining the gender similarities or differences with regard to risk and needs for work release offenders. This study attempts to close these gaps by using data on a subset of male and female offenders sentenced to work release programs across Washington State. Keywords: Cost-effectiveness; LSI-R; Washington State Static Risk Level Tool; WA DOC Needs Assessment; violations and recidivism
